Polyethylene Glycol 0.4% + Propylene Glycol 0.3% Eye Drops Uses

Polyethylene glycol+propylene glycol is a compound that combines two lubricating medicines. Polyethylene glycol + Propylene Glycol, both work in a similar way to natural tears and provide relief from burning and irritation caused by dry eyes. It belongs group of medications called “eye lubricants”. Dry eye is a common condition that is caused by allergies, eye infections, exposure to wind, air conditioning, and some medications. It helps to keep the eyes moist, protect the eyes from injury or infection, and reduces dry eye symptoms like burning, itching, and feeling like something is in your eyes. Common causes of dry eyes include exposure to wind, heat/air conditioning, prolonged use of computers, or reading for long periods. This medication helps to protect your eyes from these things. 

Purpose: Polyethylene glycol+propylene glycol comes under the brand name Eylub-Peg (10ml) by Vee Remedies and is a clear, colorless, viscous liquid that readily dissolves many hydrophobic drugs. It is a widely used commercial solvent and vehicle for many pharmaceutical products and is safe for human use.

Directions to use 

• Place the dropper directly over the eye and squeeze out 1-2 drops of the liquid, as needed.
• Look down and close your eyes for 1 or 2 minutes.
• Place one finger at the corner of the eye near the nose and apply a little pressure. This will prevent the medication from draining away from the eyes
• Store this medication in a cold and Dry place away from sunlight, pets, and the reach of children.
• Follow all instructions on the product label. If prescribed by your doctor, use this medicine in the affected eyes according to your doctor’s instructions. If you have any questions about this product, please do not hesitate to contact your physician or pharmacist. 
• Some eye drops may require shaking before use. Please check the label to determine if you need to shake your product before use. 

Side Effects

If your doctor tells you to take this medication, keep in mind that your doctor has decided that the benefits outweigh the risks. Most people who take this medication do not experience any serious side effects. Some common side effects are –

• Blurred vision (Temporary)
• Stinging sensation (Temporary)
• Itching (Temporary)
• Irritation (Temporary)
• Stinging (Temporary)
• Burning (Temporary)

Tell your doctor ASAP if you notice any serious side effects including – 

• Eye Pain
• Change in vision 
• Continue eye redness and irritation

Very severe allergic reactions to this drug are very rare. However, if you experience a severe allergic reaction tell your medical healthcare provider about immediately. Some of the reactions are such as – 

• Rash 
• Scratching 
• Swelling (especially on the face, tongue/throat), 
• Severe dizziness 
• Problems in breathing

Precautions

• Firstly this medication is a prescribed medicine, only medical healthcare experts will prescribe this medication for the treatment of dry eyes, because this medicine is highly effective so proper calculation and measurements are compulsory. Do not start or stop treatment of Polyethylene Glycol 0.4% + Propylene Glycol 0.3% Eye Drops on your own. 
• Do not use this medicine if its solution color changes and looks cloudy, some similar brands available in the market contain glycerin, polysorbate, etc that may appear milky 
• Do not use more than recommended by the doctor, because chances for dangerous allergic reactions are rare but possible in situations of long-term use.  
• If you are using any eye drops or eye ointment, please inform your doctor immediately. 
• If eye pain, persistent redness, eye irritation, or any other symptoms worsen or persist more than 72 hours following the use of the product, contact your doctor.
