Gatifloxacin 0.3% Eye Drop Use
Gatifloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat eye infections. It belongs to the fourth generation of quinolones and is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is effective against aerobic Gramp-positive bacteria and aerobic Gram-negative bacteria and has meagre bacterial resistance compared with other antibiotics. An average of 6 people in 10 are suffering from several kinds of eye infections, and many of these infections are caused by dirt, dust pollution, air pollution and other harmful microorganisms present in the air. These bacteria or microorganisms enter our eyes directly and multiply. This medication helps in threatening bacterial infection of the eye by preventing the growth of microorganisms that cause the infection and pain. It also kills bacteria by blocking the synthesis of two enzymes that are essential for the bacterial cell’s growth and survival: DNA-glycoprotein (DGyrase) and TEO-IV (Topoisomerase).
Direction to Use
- Shake the bottle well before eye use.
- This medication is available on prescription, do not start using this medication without consultation or direction from your doctor.
- For best results use this medication daily according to the schedule provided by your medical healthcare professional of yours for you.
- Gatifloxacin 0.3% eye drops are for ocular use only. Make sure to wash your hands immediately before and after using.
- To avoid the chances of contamination, don’t touch the tip of the dropper and don’t let it touch any other surface.
- Turn your head back, look up and pull down your lower eyelid to form a pouch. Put the dropper over your eye and infuse as many drops as you need. Look down and close your eyes for 1-2 minutes. Put one finger near the corner of your eye, near your nose, and apply gentle pressure to keep the medication from draining out of your eye. Don’t blink and don’t rub your eye. Rinse the dropper afterwards.
Side Effects
Some common and harmless side effects can occur while having the treatment with Gatifloxacin 0.3% Eye Drop. Tell your doctor or medical healthcare professional ASAP if any of these common side effects stay for long or get worse. Some common side effects are such as –
- Blurred vision
- Watery eyes
- Headache
- Eye irritation

Precautions
- The antibiotic Gatifloxacin is prescribed for treating Bacterial conjunctivitis in the eye. This medication Gatifloxacin 0.3% Eye Drop is not available without a prescription, your medical healthcare provider will prescribe this medication after examining the condition of the eye.
- Make sure to complete the treatment. Do not stop the medication before the course ends. This ensures that the infection is completely healed and prevents it from returning.
- Tell your doctor about any allergy you are suffering from in the present or had in the past, and if you had any kind of eye surgery.
- After the application of this medication, your vision may become temporarily blurred. Do not drive or operate heavy vehicles and pieces of machinery, until your vision clears.
- Gatifloxacin is not recommended for children doctors under the age of 1 year, it is not good for them. Talk to your pharmacist before providing Gatifloxacin to children.
